A great location for seeing the volcano. There was much anticipation waiting and willing the clouds to part so we could see the summet and we were not disappointed. The driveway is fun. The location is tranquil and it was a delight to see the local birds and animals in the grounds and on the tour of the surrounding rainforest. Excellent restaurant too.

When the fog lifts the view is spectacular. The swimming pool and jacuzzi are very nice and you can sit there and see the volcano on a clear day. Most of the staff were very friendly, going out of their way to point out birds, frogs, and geckos.

It is a bit tired-looking and needs some upgrading (upholstery was worn through and cracked on the chairs in the room, for example).

The views were wonderful and we liked the breakfasts and wait staff.

there one computer to share did not work well.

the views were spectacular. the staff was nice.

The place is old dated, but that is not really the problem. It is in desperate need of repairs and maintenance. Everywhere in the common areas smelled musty and mildewed. There were leaks all over the place. There is a literal 10 minute drive from the main road up a steep narrow and winding trail to get to the hotel. There was not A/C in the room we booked (even though it was advertised on Booked.net as having a/c in all rooms) and there is no wireless internet access except in the lobby(another mis-advertisement by Booked.net). We were moved into a room with A/C when we complained and that A/C did not work. The hotel tried to assure us that it would be plenty cool at night but it was not. when we saw the rooms and the condition of the place we wanted to just cancel and leave but they said we would still be charged because we didnt cancel in advance. Mind you that we did not no-show, but took a look and wanted to leave because of the condition of the place. We were also assured that Booked.net would still bill us if we left, even if the hotel did not. The food is average at best. There are many nicer and cheaper and more central properties in the area to choose from.

Amazing lake and volcano view. Most staff were really friendly. Restaurant was tasty mostly and good value with fine service.

Distance from road and challenging drive. Minimal amenities. Not as advertised on website..

We loved the view from the room.

The waiter at the restaurant was rude. The food was terrible and the staff were not helpful or honest. In fact we ordered a taxi through the hotel staff to take us to sky trek only to find out that they are getting kickbacks from these taxi drivers because they are over charging us. It cost us $80 round trip to go zip lining!!! The zip lining place is only 10-15 minutes from the hotel. It costs $30 one way to go to la fortunia and that is 30 minutes away from the hotel.

We so loved Miguel, the naturalist and guide for horseback rides (included with room stay!) and nature/jungle/butterfly guided walks. He was so kind to us and our daughter, so knowledgable, and had such a love of the country and its creatures. He was very intelligent and funny and picked the gentlest horse for her first solo ride (though they were all easy horses). He pointed out several creatures we wouldn't have otherwise seen! Norman and Carlos in the bar and restaurant were wonderful, the food was fantastic (the "typical breakfast", or the local style, was so delicious), and the views of the gardens and horse trails and the volcano were incredible from the restaurant and from our junior suite as well as from the infinity pool and 2 jacuzzis. The entire property was so lush, filled with tree frogs and macaws and monkeys along the jungle perimeter, and we even saw a group of 8 peccaries, very unusual, because we were up at 5 am in the dark our first morning (still on Ga. Time). The room was comfortable and had cross-ventilation of screened windows & ceiling fan, and the maids folded creatures out of our towels each day - our daughter loved them! *We did too! We heard frogs and geckos singing to us all night long, but we are from the U.S. south & are used to sleeping to that. I'd recommend earplugs if you aren't accustomed to outdoor serenades, though. For us, it was wonderful. The front desk staff were also so helpful and kind, calling ahead and asking questions for us (our spanish is mal) and we were all three served champagne glasses on our arrival (even our 9 year old daughter). They let us guess the juices in the drink, non-alcoholic, of course. I won't spoil the mystery but if you go you'll love it, so delicious!

The only thing I could possibly not like was the couple next door who apparently drank way too much one night and were loud enough to make their arguments and other things too audible. Fortunately our daughter is a hard sleeper and we had earplugs.

I liked the peacefulness and the authentic feeling. The buildings and grounds emitted a love for the natural environment of the facility. The restaurant had excellent food both typical and continental. I live in Costa Rica but I am American. I visited with a woman from Costa Rica and we both felt comfortable and enjoyed the ambiance from two different prospectives. It is a good balance of tico and foreign enjoyment. Miguel, the guide on our morning hike was an expert in the nature of the area. We enjoyed his expertise and learned so much about the 2000 acre eco-system. He also took great pictures on my camera.

I guess the long climb up the mountain made us think twice about leaving during the day to explore any other areas of Arenal. We didn't leave until we checked out. It's not a bad thing - just an observation.

The location and the view is wonderfull.

The Hotel is not well maintained. The room was not clean. The breakfast was terrible.

The site is truly extraordinary for nature lovers, scenery and people whom love nature and walking. It is remote but one cannot get tired of watching the nature the wildlife, the birds and the beauty of the surrounding.

No fault of the staff however, a lot of inconvenience in the self serving area for breakfast (toasters not functioning, coffee machine out of date, food missing even though we are very few in the breakfast area). In the room couch have stain and are well pass their time.... This facility as all the assets but need better management and refreshing

The location was wonderful :Very peaceful and looking straight at volcano Arenal We saw lots of different birds and Coatis in the hotels gardens. And the hotel had two great free guided trips, one a walking tour around the vast grounds and another a short horse riding tour. The guide , Miguel was very knowledgable making the trips very enjoyable.

The first room we booked(superior) had a very nasty damp smell, so we upgraded to a junior room .

The friendly staff, execlennt food, the willingness of the staff to serve you needs and the beautiful location.

The weather at the time cloudy and rainy

We loved staying at the hotel and the place was great and the location was awesome, but it was rainy and cloudy during the time we were there. My only problem with the booking, was that they did not have us down as staying at the hotel that night. Only after we showed our reservation and confirmation, did they find us a nice junior suite. We were a bit worried for a while, but they were not full, so it was fine. We enjoyed the free horse rides the hotel offered throughout the property for an hour, where we saw toucans and raccoons as well as howler monkeys. There was also a great hike through the forest right on the hotel property. Great place to stay.

Our reservation did not show up on their books. So we were a bit worried for about 5 minutes when we arrived. But the staff was good and made up for it after that.

Amazing place with great views, everything looks much better and luxury then on the inet pics, driving off the road to hotel suits is unexpectedly dangerous and long but absolutely beautifull. We ordered standard rooms but got suits with amazing view. Facilities and reception stuff are great but restaurant and bar is not very impressive with food and dribks quality, restaurant staff could be much nicer. The second day we came it started raining and it was rather scary at night to here all these storm sounds, but its also part of being in the center of the wild nature.. ;)
